With controversy still swirling about Pat Buchanan’s comments last week that “white
people” built America, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow revisited the issue yesterday,
correcting Buchanan’s factual “errors” about the role of white people in American
history.
Last week on MSNBC, Buchanan stated: “White men were 100 percent of the people
that wrote the Constitution, 100 percent of the people that signed the Declaration of
Independence, 100 percent of the people who died at Gettysburg and Vicksburg,
probably close to 100 percent of the people who died at Normandy. This is a country
built basically by white folks.”
